A bright focused combination, the R3SMPCEBK combines Solid Spruce on the top with Maple on the back and sides. This pairing delivers a bright immediate tone with superb projection, Maple is a very dense hardwood, This makes it a good choice for live performance because the clarity of tone cuts through the mix well.

The perfect all-rounder, the No.3 has the same scale length as the Orchestra Model but body dimensions closer to a classic dreadnought. The larger body cavity naturally produces greater bass tones, but without sacrificing clarity, and that's the beauty of the Grand-Auditorium. However, a larger body does not mean an unwieldy instrument. Far from it, in fact. The beautiful curves around the waist of the Rathbone No.3 ensure the guitar will sit comfortably on a knee or hang perfectly from your shoulders.

Bought from a proper instrument shop (the Music Centre Bedford) and got to try a few models (Fender Guild Sigma) but the Rathbone had the best tone without paying a lot more (Martin?). Plus it looks gorgeous with symmetrical head., traditional tuning heads and finish. Bone bridges will prove worthwhile in years to come. Maple should sound better and better as it ages.

My 9th R3. The first time I test-drove this guitar I wasn't keen. But when I tried out (and bought) the R3BCE this morning, I gave it another whirl and I honestly don't know what I had been thinking last time (or it has mellowed with age - definitely the same one it was still tuned to open D). So now it's mine. Incidentally these are NOT paid reviews. Rathbone don't even offer me a discount . 1. I have tuned each guitar differently, so retuning deson't cut into my practice time. 2. When I unwind of an evening I like to look at them all. 3. I am not learning to play left-handed (sorry Rathbone)
